Applied Specialty Underwriters Expands with New Infrastructure and Construction Market, Naming Sector Leader John Schlosser to Head Division
Applied Underwriters subsidiary makes immediate impact as construction and related businesses seek specialized acumen in the wake of Biden $1.7T infrastructure package
Omaha, Nebraska -- November 23, 2021 -- Mr. Steve Menzies, Chairman of Applied Underwriters, today officially announced the creation and leadership staffing of Applied Specialty Underwriters’ new infrastructure and construction practice. As Applied Specialty continues to enjoy dramatic growth since its founding one year ago and the naming of Christopher Day as President, the newly formed practice will respond to increased demand for infrastructure product and coverage features and provide alternative markets and options for the wide variety of business exposures in the field, according to Mr. Menzies.
Mr. Menzies named Mr. John Schlosser to lead the infrastructure underwriting section as Applied presents a profoundly well-focused menu of concentrations. Mr. Menzies, who noted both the extraordinary opportunity for Applied Specialty to become a leader in the infrastructure sector and the unique experience that Mr. Schlosser brings to the task, stated: “We are providing attractive primary and excess limits, a new team of 20 underwriting and executive personnel and other resources that John Schlosser’s extensive background and appreciable, relevant experience have already begun to put to work to build this practice further. He brings many years of success to Applied Specialty and we see in his leadership great momentum and impact. He will prove a great asset to our specialty team.”
Mr. Jamie Sahara, President of Applied Underwriters, described some elements of the new infrastructure facility’s plans: “We will write infrastructure risks through our national network of wholesalers and will look at project-based and annual commercial general liability as well as excess liability for a range of infrastructure exposures. These include: electric power and distribution; solar and wind turbine projects; roads and bridges; tunnels; rail, telecom and broadband; airports; pipelines; coastal and inland ports; locks, levees and dams; water treatment plants; waterline projects; and government infrastructure, using wrap-up, rolling wrap-up and project-specific insurance among other options – all, as the effects of the recently signed $1.7T bill will generate coverage needs. We see the addition of Mr. Schlosser as an advantage to Applied and to our clients in this dynamic, fast-growing market.”
Consistent with the many talented professionals Applied Underwriters has attracted to its many new programs including Applied Specialty Underwriters, Applied Fine Art & Collections, Applied Financial Lines and Applied Underwriters Aerospace, Mr. Schlosser’s experience and accomplishments bespeak professional dedication and demonstrated acumen. Mr. John Schossler, CPCU, CRIS has more than 20 years of experience in construction casualty underwriting including service as Vice President, HDI Global Insurance; Underwriting Director, CNA; National Accounts manager at Travelers and, earlier, at St. Paul Fire and Marine.
Mr. Schlosser holds BA and MBA degrees from Kent State University. He served in the US Army and was stationed in West Germany, Honduras and the US during his tour. He is widely recognized and published in the field of insurance coverage.
